Little Mermaid New DVD is Coming!

The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning is an animated feature film, a second direct-to-video sequel to the original 1989 animated film The Little Mermaid (The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea was the first sequel in the year 2000). It was once thought to be cancelled, but the new movie was announced after the October 2006 Platinum Edition DVD release of The Little Mermaid was revealed to include a sneak peek of the film. The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning is slated for a August 26, 2008 release.

The movie will be the final direct-to-video sequel produced by Disney, as, on June 22, 2007, the Walt Disney Co. announced a major restructuring of its animation department, which included a decision to stop producing their "lucrative yet lower quality" direct-to-DVD sequels spawned by the studio's most successful feature titles.
The Platinum DVD of The Little Mermaid was released on October 3, 2006 . Click here to view the trailer video and see other clips from the original movie. You can order the new Platinum Edition release from Amazon for only $14.99!

You can still find special edition versions (previous release) by following the Amazon ads to the right or visit our Little Mermaid DVD page to find DVDs from many sellers.

The 1989 film, which won Oscars for best song and best original score and is credited with revitalizing Disney's animated features after a long dry spell, was issued in stores Oct. 3 as a Platinum Edition DVD, a designation that brings with it significantly more bells and whistles than a standard DVD release.

'The Little Mermaid' is a monumental film in the history of Disney animation that is beloved by everyone. It was the beginning of a new era of animation at the Walt Disney Studios that included 'Beauty and the Beast,' 'Aladdin' and 'The Lion King.'

Like other Platinum Edition releases, "Mermaid" is a two-disc set, with one disc reserved solely for bonus materials. Several cutting-edge features are still being developed along with such expected extras as deleted scenes, commentaries and featurettes on the making of the movie. The DVD also includes several musical bonuses.

Quote Of The Day

Scuttle: I haven't seen this in years, this is wonderful.
Ariel: What is it?
Scuttle: A banded, bulbous snarfblatt.
Ariel & Flounder: Ooooooh.
Scuttle: Now the snarfblatt dates back to prehysterical times when humans used to sit around and stare at each other all day. Got very boring. So they invented this snarfblatt to make fine music.

Ursula: Yeeeeeees, hurry home, princess. We wouldn't want to miss old Daddy's celebration, now, would we? Huh! Celebration indeed. Bah! In *my* day, we had fantastical feasts when I lived in the palace. And now, look at me - wasted away to practically nothing - banished and exiled and practically starving, while he and his flimsy fish-folk celebrate. Well, I'll give 'em something to celebrate soon enough. Flotsam! Jetsam! I want you to keep an extra close watch on this pretty little daughter of his. She may be the key to Triton's undoing. . . .
Ariel's Song Lyrics "Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid (more Little Mermaid Lyrics)
Look at this stuff
isn't it neat?
wouldn't you think my collection's complete?
wouldn't you think I'm the girl
the girl who has everything?
look at this trove
treasures untold
how many wonders can one cavern hold?
looking around here you'd think
sure, she's got everything
I've got gadgets and gizmo's a plenty
I've got whozits and whatzits galore
(you want thingamabobs? I've got 20!)
but who cares?
no big deal
I want more
I wanna be where the people are
I wanna see wanna see 'em dancing
walking around on those
(what do you call 'em? oh, feet)
flipping your fins you don't get to far
legs are required for jumping, dancing
strolling along down a
(what's that word again?) street
up where they walk
up where they run
up where they stay all day in the sun
wandering free
wish I could be
part of that world
what would I give
if I could live
out of these waters?
what would I pay
to spend a day
warm on the sand?
bet'cha on land
they understand
bet they don't reprimand their daughters
bright young women
sick of swimming
ready to stand
and ready to know what the people know
ask 'em my questions and get some answers
what's a fire and why does it
(what's the word?) burn
when's it my turn?
wouldn't I love
love to explore that shore up above?
out of the sea
wish I could be
part of that world
